MESH/STRETCH/CORDURA WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
-
Use front-loading washing machines only for best results. Do not use top-loading machines.
-
Do not remove the armor when using a front-loading machine.
-
Make sure all zippers, Velcro, vents, and pockets are closed securely before washing.
-
Do not wash the garment alone—wash with other clothing to protect reflective materials from wear.
-
Follow the washing instructions on the tag inside the garment.
-
Use cold water only.
-
Do not use fabric softeners or conditioners.
-
Select the gentle cycle on your machine.
For tough stains: Most commercially available stain removers are safe.
Do not use bleach or products containing bleach. Bleach can damage advanced fibers and Cordura nylon.
Tip: For stubborn stains, wet the fabric and apply liquid hand soap. Rub the fabric together gently. Let it sit for 30 minutes, then repeat if necessary.
If the garment is heavily soiled or hasn’t been washed in a long time:
-
Fill half a bathtub or large sink with cold water.
-
Add mild laundry detergent.
-
Place gear into the water and use a towel to keep it submerged.
-
Soak for up to 24 hours, then wash as described above in a front-loading machine.
Do not use a dryer. Hang the garment in a shaded area to air dry.
Aero-Tex Liners / Jackets / Pants
Use the same instructions as above except:
-
Wash in warm water
-
Use powder detergent only
-
Use the extra rinse cycle, or if unavailable, wash again without detergent
Note: If you have the zip-out Thermoloft jacket insulation, it can be washed together with the outer jacket or pants.
RE-WATERPROOFING & UV PROTECTION
When water no longer beads on the shell of the garment or liner, it’s time to re-treat with Fabric Guard 303. This ensures the gear remains 100% waterproof, windproof, and breathable. If untreated, fabric will absorb water and become heavy.
Benefits of re-treating include:
-
Stains are easier to clean—spills blot up before setting
-
Improved breathability in rainy conditions
-
Helps retain color by providing UV protection
Note: All bright colors will fade over time due to UV exposure. Fabric Guard 303 includes UV inhibitors to slow this fading.
Search online for “Fabric Guard 303” to find a retailer.
COMFORT AND ARMOR FITTING
It can take up to one hour or more in cold weather for the armor to conform to your body.
For best results, wear the gear without liners at room temperature indoors.
If after one hour the armor is still uncomfortable, it may be trimmed:
-
Open the inner Velcro armor pockets
-
Trim about ¼ inch off the edge of the armor using standard scissors
-
Reinsert and test fit
-
If needed, trim another ¼ inch for improved comfort
Note: If the knee armor feels uncomfortable, trim only the lower knee/shin portion of the pant armor.
ULTRA SERIES PANTS – HOW TO WEAR
Some riders find these pants initially difficult to put on or take off. Use this step-by-step method—it should take 10 seconds or less:
-
Fully unzip the pants (right leg unzips above the crotch)
-
Step into the left leg—boots or shoes do not need to be removed
-
Stand and wrap the waistband around the right hip
-
Fold in the flap that covers the belt buckle and expose the zippers
-
Connect the waist zipper and zip down toward the foot
-
Close the Velcro as you stand
-
Zip down the left leg, also closing Velcro while standing
To remove the pants, simply reverse the above steps.
It may feel unusual at first, but becomes second nature quickly.
Some riders prefer to unzip the right leg only halfway—others prefer fully unzipping.
KNEE ARMOR & CALF ADJUSTMENT
When seated on the bike for the first time in the pants, adjust the knee/shin armor to the correct position.
The armor pocket should allow at least 1 inch of movement for proper placement.
Next, snug the Velcro panel behind the calf. This will:
-
Keep the armor in place during a slide or fall
-
Prevent pant legs from dragging or riding up
-
Ensure armor molds correctly to your knees
You only need to make this calf adjustment once—unless switching to different boots.
FIT MODIFICATION FOR BOOTS & ARMOR
If wearing tall or wide boots, you may find the pant cuff too tight.
Note that the shin armor doesn’t need to extend over the boot in the riding position.
To improve fit:
-
Sit on your bike with pants and boots on
-
Unzip one leg and mark the inside of the mesh liner where your boot top ends
-
Remove the armor from the other leg and use it as a cutting template
-
Cut 1 inch above your marked boot line
-
Hand-sew the nylon mesh armor pocket closed where needed (no need to sew through the outer layer)
This improves shin room and adjustability at the cuff.
CORDURA NOTE
Our 1000 Denier Ultra Cordura is a loose weave without any polyurethane coating.
We use the highest-grade Velcro, which can catch on uncoated Cordura and cause fraying over time.
While this does not affect performance, repeated contact will affect appearance.
To preserve the look of your gear, avoid unnecessary Velcro contact with the outer fabric.
